Friday, January 26

 Friday, January 26th, 2024

We welcomed the warmth this week and were so excited to finally be back outdoors during body break and lunch times!

Reminders:

3/4 Turner has their trip to TELUS Spark this coming Monday, January 29th.
3/4 Stacey has their trip coming up the following Monday, the 2nd of February.

Students have been working hard on their "Journey of a Water Drop" story. They have completed their story plan and are incorporating what they've learned about story hooks and dialogue to piece their story together with a clear beginning, middle and end.

We are continuing to practice using strategies such as arrays, equal groups, and doubling to further solidify understanding of what it means to multiply and to divide. During Ignite this week, students learned games such as Array Capture & Tic-Tac-Toe Multiplication to practice their skills up to 6x6.

This week, classes took part in a Lacrosse program and practiced scooping, shooting, passing, catching and carrying a lacrosse ball.

Next week, we will be beginning a new unit on Podcasts, where students will have the opportunity to explore a Podcast series while practicing reading strategies.

Brrrrrr! It's been quite the week of frigid temperatures in Calgary!! We made the best of the blue days with many body breaks! We hope everyone has been able to get back into routines after a great 2 week break!

This week we began with goal setting and thinking about how we can create our best selves at school and at home. Ask you child about their school and home goals!

Students are working on reading through small group targeted work, guided reading, reading comprehension skills and reading for pleasure. Students are continuing with Words Their Way personal words and practicing their editing skills in their writing. The triad classes are finishing or finished our class novel study, A Rover's Story and wrapping up with some fun activities!

We continue to learn about Alberta's regions and are digging into learning about the symbols, resources, animals, climate and other areas of interest of each region. Students are researching using multiple resources and building their skills in expository writing while preparing a group presentation.

In science, we are wrapping up learning about solids, liquids and gasses and beginning to learn about simple machines.
