Oct 27

This week we explored body scans in ignite. Each day students paid attention to how emotions live in different parts of our body. We continue to explore emotions in our E-Motion residency twice each week.

Please remember to send your child with all outdoor equipment needed for the weather, including boots, mitts, hat and a warm coat. Layers are also important in this Calgary climate!

Learning Intentions from the week:
  • I can perform mental calculations for simple addition and subtraction problems efficiently.
  • I can demonstrate fluency in adding and subtracting numbers
  • I can learn and practice some mindful techniques and become more aware of my feelings
  • I can organize my thoughts and write in a variety of forms
  • I can master my words and recognize them in literature and writing
  • I can explore maps and understand how to read them using symbols
  • I can learn about Indigenous artists and their style of artistic expression, trying it out in my own art
Looking Ahead: 

  • We will explore the regions of Alberta and the resources it has
  • We will continue to building our addition and subtraction skills explore problem solving in math
  • We will explore matter in science and follow the scientific process
  • We will continue to learn skills to support our reading comprehension and decoding skills
  • We will continue to make connections between texts I read and my own experiences and prior knowledge

We spent some time this week exploring and discovering the things we are grateful for. Students explored different mediums in our ignite time that encouraged us to be mindful and thoughtful. We created "metaphorical" chalk paste pictures and zendoodles. In math we continue to explore addition and subtraction strategies.

Learning Intentions from the week:

  • I can recognize and apply number patterns and relationships to streamline addition and subtraction.
  • I can analyze data and draw conclusions based on evidence.
  • I can learn and practice some mindful techniques and become more aware of my feelings.
  • I can write a persuasive plan and paragraph.
  • I can sort my words based on patterns while I do my word work.
Looking Ahead: 
  • We will explore virtues and identify examples of these in our world.
  • We will continue to building our addition and subtraction skills. 
  • We will continue to explore problem solving in math.
  • We will transfer our learned mapping skills to the provincial map of Alberta.
