  Hello Families!  

Thank you to all of our volunteers for helping out at our Glenbow Ranch field trip! What a great day!

There is no school tomorrow as it is National Truth and Reconciliation Day. Students have been forming a greater understanding of what we can do as a community to bring awareness to those affected by residential schools. 

Learning Intentions from the week:

  • I can explore and reflect on who Eric Havie was and understand the legacy he left behind.
  • I can make connections with the land, the history of Alberta and its settlers while exploring Glenbow Ranch
  • I can spell words accurately, including high-frequency words and common spelling patterns
  • I can adapt my problem-solving strategies when faced with different types of logic puzzles, demonstrating versatility in my thinking
  • I can understand the place value of numbers up to 100 000 and show my understanding in a variety of ways.
  • I can demonstrate empathy to those affected by residential schools and show support through my actions.
Looking Ahead: 
  • We will continue to make connections and understand the impact Eric Harvie had in Alberta
  • We will establish our routines for word work activities
  • We will continue to learn strategies for mindfulness and being aware of our feelings
  • We will organize and create factual paragraphs about flowers from our science mini inquiry
  • We will explore our understanding of addition and subtraction through computations and problem solving.

Friday, September 22nd

A reminder that there is no school next Friday, September 29th, in lieu of September 30th, which is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

  • I can adapt my problem-solving strategies when faced with different types of logic puzzles, demonstrating versatility in my thinking
Looking Ahead: 
  • We will explore who Eric Harvie was and the legacy he has left behind
  • We will venture to Glenbow Ranch on Thursday, taking part in learning sessions focused around Eric Harvie, art, the land, and the area's history
  • We will establish our routines for word work activities
  • We will continue to experiment with logic puzzles, such as anagram families and math symbol puzzles during our morning Ignite time

If you can bring in a set of headphones to use while working with technology, please do so. Make sure they are clearly labeled with your name and you will store them in your bin. Please note, our google classroom will have some practice links in math and reading and inquiry as we continue to build our skills, the links in our google classroom will also grow.

We had a very busy week as we continued on some of the projects we started from last week. Our research and studies have focused on Terry Fox this week and we ended with the Terry Fox Run Rally at TMC School today!.

Next Friday September 22nd there is nos school as it is a non-instructional day forteachers.

Learning Intentions from the week:

  • I can understand the positional value of digits in three-digit numbers.
  • I can recognize that two-digit numbers represent a specific number of tens and ones.
  • I can identify the value of each digit's position in a multi-digit number.
  • I can represent multi-digit numbers in expanded form.I can create and interpret pictographs to represent data.
  • I can create and interpret bar graphs to represent data.
  • I can express my ideas and information accurately and creatively through writing.
  • I can increase my reading stamina during Read to Self time.
  • I can refine my awareness and observation skills to look closely.

Looking Ahead: 

  • We will continue to learn about concepts for place value
  • We will begin mapping skills of our country, province and community
  • We will begin our science inquiry on plants

We are starting to settle into routines this week and learn more about our peers! We enjoyed a Back to School assembly on Friday morning as well.

Learning Intentions from the week:

- Continue to establish classroom routines in our learning community

- Develop understanding of surveys, gathering and interpreting data in a graph

- Learning about and creating Biography poems, using descriptive language

-Working on reading stamina, while reading independently and with others


Looking Ahead: 

- Further establish routines, specifically in the area of reading and writing (literacy)
- Form a deeper understanding of the concepts for place value

Welcome Back to School!

Learning Intentions from the week:

Established classroom routines in our learning community
- Focused on building relationships through the theme of "friendship"
- Investigated and discovered various geometric shapes
- Manipulated shapes to create known images & objects
- Reflected on what makes each of us unique through writing

Looking Ahead: 

- Further establish routines, specifically in the area of reading and writing (literacy)
- Develop the ability to "look closely" during scientific observation
- Introduce concepts for place value
