The week flew by and it was full of events! We worked on symmetry drawing and used our creative skills to create unique drawings during our transformation station. Students worked on multi-digit addition and subtraction and we are building upon our strategies to solve equations more efficiently. We continued our novel study and started a challenge building project. In literacy, students have been working on story writing and continue to be part of our daily targeted groups.
 
Learning Intentions from the week:
  • I can express my ideas and information accurately and creatively through writing.
  • I can expand my vocabulary by learning new words and their meanings.
  • I can use context clues to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words in a text.
  • I can apply phonics skills to decode and read unfamiliar words.
  • I can recognize and use common spelling patterns and phonetic rules when reading and writing.
  • I can use the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, publishing) to improve my writing.
  • I can add two or more three-digit numbers using various strategies, including mental math, counting on.
  • I can identify different states of matter (solid, liquid, gas) and give examples of each.
  • I can describe the properties of matter, such as size, shape, color, and texture.
  • I can identify and describe the basic parts and functions of wheels.
  • I can recognize the significance of traditional knowledge, stories, and oral histories of Indigenous peoples.

Looking Ahead:
  • I can apply addition skills to solve word problems involving numbers within 1,000.
  • I can add whole numbers within 10,000 using various strategies.
  • I can identify and use literary devices, such as figurative language and descriptive details, in my writing.
  • I can identify and describe the basic parts and functions of wheels.
  • I can design and conduct simple experiments to test hypotheses.
  • I can recognize the significance of traditional knowledge, stories, and oral histories of Indigenous peoples.
  • I can reflect on the role of individuals and communities in shaping Alberta's future.
